Challenge
A distribution company's network had grown without a plan. Cabling was unlabeled, equipment was out of support, and faults took hours to trace.
Every critical system sat in one location. A fire, a flood or a single failed device would have stopped the business until it was replaced.
Approach
We drew the network as it was and as it should be, and agreed the design with the owners before buying anything.
- Document the existing network and present a proposed layout.
- Rebuild the core into clean, separate segments.
- Map and label every cable.
- Put support contracts in place for the equipment.
- Link a second location to the first so that it could take over.
Result
The company has a documented network that can be managed, and a second site ready to carry the business.
- Faults traced from the diagram.
- Equipment covered by support contracts.
- A plan for losing the main site.
Our advice
Redundancy is worth little on top of a network nobody understands. Tidy and document the core first, then add the second site.
