Challenge
A consumer products group had computers spread across offices and a warehouse, supported informally by whoever was nearest.
Nobody could say how many machines there were, which were up to date or which had working protection. New starters waited for equipment, and a lost laptop would have been a guess as to what was on it.
Approach
We took on IT management under a written scope, starting with visibility.
- Enroll each computer in remote management, which produces an inventory as it goes.
- Schedule operating system and software updates, with a report of what is behind.
- Deploy managed endpoint protection and monitor it.
- Handle the day-to-day requests: new starters, replacements and shared devices on the warehouse floor.
- Agree a written process for people joining and leaving.
Result
The company can now see every machine and its status in one place, and staff get help without waiting for a visit.
- A current inventory of every device.
- Updates and protection that can be verified.
- Equipment replaced on a plan.
Our advice
You cannot secure what you have not counted. The inventory comes first, and most of what follows is easier once you have it.
