Challenge
A manufacturer's US plant ran its phones separately from the rest of the company.
The plant needed to join the company's central phone platform. It operates around the clock, so the change could not interrupt production or leave the floor without phones.
Approach
We worked with the company's central IT team on a plan that moved the plant in stages.
- List every phone and extension at the plant and check it against the building.
- Prepare the plant network to carry voice.
- Agree the numbering and directory with the central team.
- Move devices to the central system in stages, area by area.
- Test each area before moving to the next.
Result
The plant now shares one phone system and one directory with the rest of the company.
- Plant phones supported the same way as every other site.
- Calls between sites by extension.
- No interruption to production.
Our advice
In a building that never closes, move in stages and test each one. A single cutover leaves no room to recover.
